Support for UMCOR – US Spring Storms 2011

With all the storms and floods this year in the US, the need for domestic relief has never been greater. The UMW has been asked to help raise funds for the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) which responds to natural disasters such as floods, major storms and tornados, and earthquakes. 100% of the money donated to UMCOR reaches the mission specified. At this time of need across the United States, please consider giving to UMCOR - #Advance 3021326 Spring Storms. Donations to UMCOR can be donated online at the UMCOR website, to St. Andrew, or to the UMW.
Here are links to the UMCOR site:

Education in Crisis - June 12th

This year we are seeing unprecedented cuts in funding for education which is causing a major crisis in education. On Sunday, June 12 , 11:30 – 1:30, all are invited to attend a luncheon and discussion featuring a panel of St. Andrew educators addressing the impact of current funding on education, locally and nationally. Not only will you be enlightened by the discussion, but you will also be able to enjoy a time of fellowship with the lunch that will be served. Plan on attending this event sponsored by St. Andrew United Methodist Women. For more information, contact Jean McHarge at jeanmcharge@gmail.com.

Taco Lunch Bar will be provided. Just come and bring a friend or two.

Summer Mission Study at St. Andrew

Come and learn about the history of women in mission and what it means to be in mission today. This two night Mission Study – “Joy to the World: Mission in the Age of Global Christianity being held at St. Andrew Tuesday, June 21 & 28, 6:30 – 8:30.

“The church exists by mission just as fire exists by burning.” Sponsored by United Methodist Women. Sign up for this class at the UMW table in Fellowship Hall. Books will be available for purchase for $10.

Methodist mission has evolved over the last 150 years and is quite different from what it was in the 1950's and 1960's. This is an excellent mission study that was presented at the School of Christian Mission last year and is being presented again this year. We are excited to offer it at St. Andrew.

School of Christian Mission

The annual School of Christian Mission is July 21 – 23 at Boulder First United Methodist Church. The study topics this year are Joy to the World: Mission in the Age of Global Christianity, The Journey: Forgiveness, Restorative Justice and Reconciliation, and Haiti: Challenges and Hope. The class on Haiti will be taught by Jim Gulley from UMCOR who has worked extensively in Haiti and survived the recent earthquake. Information and registration forms will be available at the UMW table in Fellowship Hall. Registration is due by June

United Methodist Women on Facebook

Have you found United Methodist Women on Facebook yet? If not you should add that "page" as your friend.
There are a lot of interesting postings from that "page". I just saw this notice:

United Methodist WomenWow! We're almost at 7,000 strong here with our Facebook UMW sisters (and supporters!) Thanks, everyone!

Puttin' on the Green

Thanks to everyone who donated to the Interfaith Community Services (IFCS) annual Puttin on the Green fund-raiser! The weather was perfect for the event. Our team had a lot of fun playing golf, and everyone commented on our coordinated "uniforms".

Lunch at Cafe 180

On Wed., May 11th, Coffee and Conversation braved the monsoon weather and met for lunch at Cafe 180. The squash soup and grilled veggie pizza were delicious! The Coffee and Conversation circle supports Cafe 180 on an on-going basis.

Health Kits for UMCOR

Thanks to everyone who donated items to UMW for UMCOR Health Kits. On Tues., May 9th, the Circle of Joy and the Women of Purpose Circles met jointly on May 9th, and assembled 50 health kits for UMCOR. Plans are in the works to assemble 50 more kits in the near future.

UnBake Sale - In Progress

Our annual UnBake Sale is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Each woman was given a flier as she left the worship service on Sunday, May 7th. Attached was be a tea bag and an envelope. We encourage you to go home and relax with a nice cup of tea. Then make a donation to UMW for any amount you would have spent in the kitchen baking for a real bake sale.

You do not need an "envelope" to donate. Feel free to write a check to UMW with a note of "UnBake Sale".

New this year, you can make your donation online at http://www.st-andrew-umc.com/. Look for the Give tab and select UMW. All funds support the mission outreach of United Methodist Women.

Mother's Day Tea

Our UMW Afternoon Tea Ticket was a great success on Sat., May 7th. More than 30 ladies and young ladies attended. The food was delicious! The servers were very gracious and attentive. The harp music and violin music were outstanding.

One attended commented: "I thoroughly enjoyed this tea! It was much better than the tea at the Brown Palace!"

Thanks to Linda Lloyd, Susan Susan Apodaca, and all the other organizers of this event.

We hope to post photos soon. So stay tuned!
